Plaid + Tweed Under the Kissing Bridge

What's a kissing bridge? It's a covered bridge, dating back to the 19th century, that got its reputation from canoodling couples that would sneak in for a private kiss. With a roof and wooden walls they became a hidden rural tryst, but the intentions of the structure were in fact to protect the bridge from deterioration. This one happens to be in Mingo Creek Park and I can't wait to go back when it gets warm out, this place is gorgeous! Awesome scenery, horseback riding trails, and an observatory with telescopes and a planetarium for some serious star gazing when the AAAP hosts public star party nights!

I love the juxtaposition of plaid and tweed together for a harmonious wintery effect, and the unexpected playfulness from a peak of polka dots somehow manages to work through layering. I ended up putting this outfit together after being inspired by the Chanel Pre-Fall 2013 collection (which was filling my Lagerfeld fix while waiting to see the jaw droppingly gorgeous Spring 2013 Couture collection). It definitely has a little Scottish inspiration, and it made me realize that I need more plaid in my closet!

A quick note, not one piece (other than the necklace) is new with this outfit. Everything has had a home in my closet for six months or more. I've owned this skirt for at least five years now and it's been one of my favorite things to wear in the winter. I guess one of the goals with my outfit posts is to encourage people to work with what they already own! Granted, there are going to be times when parts of my outfit are new, but there are also going to be times when you see pieces re-worked into different looks.

  2. I really love your outfit. The bridge is the perfect background, a really great location you found there.
I agree with you that pieces can be kept for years and will look like something new when you manage to find new ways to combine them.
